In order to address potential areas for digital cooperation, including cybersecurity, digital ID, and satellites, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Undersecretary for Public Affairs and Foreign Relations Anna Mae Yu Lamentillo met with Ambassador Ahmed Shehabeldin Ibrahim Abdullah, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Lamentillo clearly stated that improving connectivity in the country's underprivileged and hard-to-reach areas as well as digitizing government services to increase government productivity and efficiency in providing public services are among President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s priorities under the Build Better More initiative.

“Both our nations aim to transform into truly digital countries. There can be exchange of knowledge, technical expertise, experiences and best practices on our respective journey towards digitalization,” said Lamentillo.

Egypt has an ICT 2030 Strategy by creating a “Digital Egypt,” that helps Egypt’s Vision 2030 achieve its goals. These goals include strengthening the ICT infrastructure, promoting digital inclusion, achieving the shift to a knowledge-based economy, supporting innovation, boosting capacities, combating corruption, ensuring cybersecurity, and advancing Egypt's standing on the regional and global stages.

According to the Ambassador, one of the foundations of Digital Egypt is creating a robust digital infrastructure, which also includes offering and maintaining high-quality communications services.

Lamentillo said, the DICT, under the leadership of Secretary Ivan John Uy, is also exploring partnerships with other nations to help pursue the Marcos Administration’s Build Better More thrust, which aims to bridge the digital divide and improve the provision of public services through e-governance.
