ASEAN Digital Senior Officials Meeting with the United States
Shangri-La Boracay, Malay, Aklan
February 8, 2023
Good afternoon, Madam Chair!
As digital technology evolves and expands, so do cybersecurity threats, preying on the most vulnerable. We seek to create a digital space that is open and secure, promotes inclusive growth, fosters resilient and democratic societies, and empowers all. The Philippines expresses its gratitude to the US for its partnership with ASEAN on a broad range of digital economy priorities and support for ASEAN centrality. We look forward to stronger cooperation under the Digital Connectivity and Cybersecurity Partnership (DCCP), among other programs, to support the development of communications infrastructure while also building the cybersecurity capacity of the AMS.
The Philippines also thanks the US government for its support in the face of new and emerging threats, particularly through its commitment to complete a full assessment of the cyber threat landscape in the Philippines, and establishing next steps to counter cyber threats. Likewise, for its support for 5G deployment in the country and the expansion of Internet service to underserved and geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas in the Philippines. The National Privacy Commission of the Philippines has also been collaborating with the US on data privacy protection through various initiatives, such as the yearly Joint Cybersecurity Working Group (JCSWG), which promotes intelligence sharing and policy development through training and technical assistance to enhance the Philippines’ cybersecurity law enforcement operations.
Thank you, Madam Chair.
